Zavod za mineralne sirovine i marinsku geologiju provodi istraživanja mineralnih sirovina (s gospodarskog i znanstvenog stajališta), geokemijska istraživanja okoliša, paleolimnološka istraživanja, istraživanja siga i geološka istraživanja podmorja (marinske geologije). Djelatnici istražuju:
- Investigate and assess mineral resource potential in the Republic of Croatia, geological characteristics of mineral deposits in the Republic of Croatia, sustainable management of mineral resources and spatial planning, expert reposrts on reserves, development and maintenance of mineral resources database in the Republic of Croatia;
- Geochemical research of soils, karst poljes, lakes and marinesediments, speleothems, paleoenvironmental and paleoclimatic changes in terrestrial environments (lakes, peatlands), marine environments and speleothems during Quaternary;
- Marine geological mapping and research, sea level changes and coastline migrations and transgressions during the Quaternary.
The Department performs both, field and laboratory research. Field equipment includes equipment for sampling of undisturbed sequences of sediments and soil, folding platform, panoramic and multibeam echo sounder, rubbery and engines.
