Remote Sensing with Unmanned Aerial Veicles (UAVs)

The unmanned aircrafts were obtained a few years ago at the Department of Hydrogeology and Engineering Geology. We use fixed wing aircraft type which can capture large surfaces. and also multirotor type that allows us to capture small distances and morphologically more demanding locations. For both types of unmanned aerial vehicles, classic (RGB) cameras and thermal cameras are available. The obtained photos are mostly used to create a 3D model by photogrammetric methods, and for other products such us orthophoto maps, radiometrics maps and so on. Here are some examples of unmanned aircraft usage:

  • Determination of the amount of denudation on badlands in Central Istria (Figure 1)
  • Mapping of the landslides (Figure 2)
  • Mapping of discontinuity in rocks (Figure 3)
  • Detection of fresh water leakage in the sea (Figure 4)
