Mineralogy and Petrology of Igenous and Metamorphic Rocks

Optical microscopic research are including the determination of minerals and mineral paragenesis, rocks structure and texture and their determination as well as microstructural rock deformations.

Mineral and petrological research of magmatic, metamorphic and volcanocolastic rocks is based on modern analytical methods and techniques of preparation and analysis in the Department's laboratory in cooperation with foreign laboratories. They include geochemical and isotopic rocks and minerals characterization, the determination of their petrogenesis, characteristics and chemistry of primary magma, explanation of the physical-chemical conditions and the environment of the alteration processes, as well as metamorphism degrees by using geothermobarometric evaluations and geotechnical determination of origin and accomodation of rocks due to solving regional geodiynamic events during the geological past.
