BASIC GEOLOGICAL RESEARCH

Geoarcheology

By application of geological methods and techniques, our employees of the Department of Geology participate in the research of archeological sites and their surroundings. Those methods are including mineral analyzes of ceramics, mineral and petrographic determination of rocks and determination of origin of architectural stone (chemical analysis, X-ray diffraction analysis and optical microscopy). We have also participated in Croatian Science Foundation project RGSP / RFMP - Roman grave monuments of Southwest Panonia in their material, social and religious context..

Palinofacial analysis and analysis of palinomorphs are essential for determination of changes in vegetation cover and anthropogenic influence. Those analysis are very useful in the determination of the source if construction material. Currently, we are participating on Croatian Science Foundation project MOPRENS - Modeling of prehistoric settlements networks in Slavonia under the leadership of Rajna Šošić Klindžić from Faculty of philosophy, University of Zagreb.
