Pelontologists are specialists for microfossils (forams, ostracods, calcareous algae, calcareous and siliceous phytoplankton, radiolaries, organic phytoplankton and spores and pollen) and macrofossils.
Information given from paleontological research are used for local and regional correlations of deposits, for understanding the conditions of deposition and also to helps as to resolve the problem of the impact of today's changes in climate and environment. They are also unavoidable in geological mapping, as well as in oil companies in research of hydrocarbon.
