MicroDrink Project: Overview of Recent Activities

The MicroDrink project team has been hard at work in recent months, marking the beginning of several crucial activities!

In October, the partnership met in Budapest, Hungary, to discuss future plans and the organization of upcoming activities. The meeting included a visit to the Eurofins laboratory where partners had the opportunity to see up close the instrument that will be used by the central lab for the analyses of samples taken during the sampling campaigns throughout 2025. The meeting also featured the International joint sampling training session, a public event where project partners, associated partners and water researchers and experts had the opportunity to gain first hand insights into the novel sampling approach that will be utilized by project MicroDrink. For all interested, project MicroDrink also prepared a short video on the sampling!

Throughout the past three months, each partner country organized a national workshop for stakeholders, aiming to broaden the dissemination of up-to-date information on microplastics state-of-the-art, including an overview of microplastics legislation. Stakeholders were familiarized with the project's goals to fill in knowledge gaps in microplastics research and provide a harmonized approach to be recommended as a good practice for future research. The MicroDrink Knowledge Database was also introduced to stakeholders as a one-stop website with recent information on sampling equipment, laboratories, analytical methodologies, projects related to microplastics research and more.

Furthermore, two webinars are set to take place in December. The webinar on microplastics sampling techniques and analytical methodologies was successfully convened on December 4th, gathering nearly 120 participants and fostering a fruitful discussion. The second webinar was held on December 16th, and delved deep into the current state of the art of microplastics in the Danube region and the related legislation and policies. The webinar was recorded and is available on the official MicroDrink YouTube Snimka webinara dostupna je na službenom YouTube kanalu projekta MicroDrink.
