INTERNAL RESEARCH PROJECTS
Equipment of the Laboratory of the Department of Geology - ZG-LAB
The laboratory of the Department of Geology is the basis of the research and professional work of the Croatian Geological Survey. It is also the basis for the research work and preparation of doctoral theses, publication of scientific articles and successful implementation of competitive scientific projects. Preparations for mineralogical-petrographic, paleontological and geochemical analyses are carried out within the laboratory. An essential part of the paleontological laboratory is the palynological laboratory, where samples for palynological analyses are prepared. Currently, this is the only laboratory of that kind in the region, and its capacities are regularly used by scientists from the Eötvös Loránd University (ELTE) in Hungary. In addition to scientists from the Croatian Geological Survey, the laboratory of the Department of Geology is regularly used by colleagues of the Faculty of Mining, Geology and Petroleum Engineering, the Geological Department of the Faculty of Science, as well as various economic entities from the fields of geology, mining, mineral resources, civil engineering, archaeology and agronomy. In addition, students of both geological faculties of the University of Zagreb perform professional practice there, and often prepare their final and diploma theses and doctoral dissertations. Unfortunately, despite continuous smaller investments in the equipment in recent years, there have been no major infrastructure investments in the laboratory for more than 40 years. For this reason, a thorough renovation of the laboratory premises and modernization of the laboratory equipment is mandatory to improve the safety and working conditions of the technical staff, students and researchers, increase efficiency and capacity, and improve the scientific output. The goal of the project is to equip the laboratory after the infrastructural renovation, which started in 2024.
