Complementary petrochronological characterization of granites, progressively metamorphic rocks and migmatites in the Papuk metamorphic complex (Slavonian Mts., Croatia) (PAPUKRON)

Project goal: The aim of the project is to provide a complementary petrochronological characterization of granite, migmatite and progressively metamorphosed rocks sequence from the Papuk metamorphic complex (Slavonian Mts., Croatia). The investigations will focus on the geochronology, petrology, mineralogy, geochemistry and structural geology. The in-situ LA-ICP-MS analysis of accessory minerals will enable the dating and characterization of the processes that complex have undergone. The results of this investigation will provide new insights into the conditions and timing of granite intrusion(s), migmatite formation and metamorphism in the Papuk metamorphic complex, as well as the conditions of melting and remelting, enabling the understanding of fundamental anatectic processes and more comprehensive characterization of regional geological events. The statistical processing of geochemical data will facilitate the identification of transitions in chemical compositions during the studied processes. Additionally, structural data will contribute to better understanding of later deformational events. The project's benefit lies in its connection with foreign laboratories, aimed at introducing young scientists to modern petrochronological methodology at the highest scientific level and in the establishment of a research group focused on igneous and metamorphic rocks within the Croatian Geological Survey.
