Cartography
The process of producing of standardized map sheet of Basic Geological Map of Republic of Croatia
Cartographic section
The geological map represents a graphical representation of geological structure (composition, age and frame) of the topographic base.
Production of geological maps in Croatian Geological Survey from 1909 until today, can be divided in three continuous units. These are Schematic Geological Map at 1:75.000 Scalewhich was produced until Second World War, after that Basic Geological Map 1:100.000 until 1989 and Basic Geological Map 1:50.000 after that.
The cartographic division of the Department of Geology is equipped with complete hardware and software equipment needed for the creation of geological (and other) maps, as well as the preparation and harmonization of the topographic base. The department primarily participates in the production of Basic Geological Map of the Republic of Croatia (OGK RH 1:50,000), namely: Map sheets and Geological and geographical areas, as well as preparation of geological maps for scientific and economic projects of the Department of Geology.
Procedure for creating a OGK RH 1:50,000 sheet:
- Scanning, graphic processing and georeferencing
- Vectorization of field maps, working geological maps, creation of a map of measuring elements
- Vectorization of the central geological map
- Preparation of the topographic base
- Vectorization of geological profiles, geological columns and tectonic schemes
- Harmonization of all associated elements according to the Instructions for creating a basic geological map 1:50.000 (Korbar et al. 2012).
- Preparation for proof printing and map evaluation
