Public Presentation of the Study on Sustainable Management of Mineral Resources of Varaždin County
A public presentation of the Study on Sustainable Management of Mineral Resources in Varaždin County was held in Varaždin on Tuesday, 20 January 2026. The Study represents the second revision of the Mining and Geological Study of Varaždin County. The event was organized as part of the public consultation process and brought together representatives of state authorities, local government units, associations, the business sector, and other interested members of the public. The Study is one of the mandatory documents prescribed by the Mining Act and serves as one of the key technical bases for the preparation of the Spatial Plan of Varaždin County. The development of the Study enables strategic spatial planning and ensures the long-term availability of mineral resources, while also establishing the conditions necessary for the implementation of development projects and measures at both national and county levels. In this way, sustainable resource use is ensured, economic development is supported, and the future needs of the sector are addressed in line with the principles of sustainable development and security of supply.
The Study was prepared by the Croatian Geological Survey from Zagreb. It was presented to attendees by Dr. Nikola Gizdavec, Research Associate at the Department of Mineral Resources and Marine Geology of the Croatian Geological Survey.
