Development and testing of a shared, AI-based predictive model for a coordinated use of big data and for a joint Monitoring System of landslides risk in the Adriatic-Ionian region (AIMS)

Deepwater-CE logo

The AIMS project focuses on monitoring and preventing landslide occurrences with the main goal of developing a tailored methodology for predicting and early forecasting that would be applicable in various ADRION areas. The proposal is based on the challenges posed by the high vulnerability of the Adriatic-Ionian region, aiming to create new predictive models based on artificial intelligence, exploring the connection between climate change-related events and increased landslide risk, with the idea of providing useful tools for risk mitigation.

To achieve this, AIMS develops the following outcomes:

- A joint strategy for a common ADRION approach to monitoring and early predicting landslides,

- Transnational pilot testing aimed at collecting and aggregating data from six specific geologically interesting locations,

- An artificial intelligence-based landslide monitoring and early prediction system applicable to various morphological contexts of the macro-region.

AIMS activities are developed through a three-phase approach: (1) Researching common challenges and suitable technologies for effective predictive models; (2) Developing, testing, and adjusting a joint mechanism for early landslide prediction for the entire Adriatic-Ionian region; (3) Strengthening capacities and knowledge transfer for the adoption of the developed monitoring and early prediction system.
