Kickoff meeting of the new iteration of the European Marine Observation and Data Network (EMODnet) project, EMODnet Geology 6

At the end of September 2025, EMODnet Geology has completed its current phase, which saw the release of 26 million km2 of new or updated spatial datasets. In addition, the inventory included around 2 million km of line data and about 18 000 data points. Datasets include the following parameters: coastal resilience and vulnerability, coastal behaviour, seabed substrates, seafloor geology, (marine) geological events and probabilities, marine minerals, and submerged landscapes. In addition, updated metadata for Boreholes, samples and Geophysics are available. The latest harmonised datasets are available at the EMODnet portal (https://emodnet.ec.europa.eu/geoviewer/).

The latest iteration, named EMODnet Geology 6, started in September 2025 and will last for four years. The two-day online kickoff meeting was held on September 30th and October 1st, with almost 60 people present. While products from the previous iterations will continue to be updated in EMODnet VI, new products will be added, including borehole and grab sample data, seismic survey data, organic carbon content of sediments, flora and fauna on submerged landscapes, geotechnical data, Carbon 14 measurements, and multibeam survey data, using interactive maps and tools.
