EGU 2025, Vienna, Austria

At the EGU 2025 conference, as part of the SSP4.1 session "Paleoclimate and paleoenvironment through the lens of micropaleontology", Katja Mužek delivered an oral presentation titled “A comparative study of lacustrine ostracods and mollusks of the Dinarides and Serbian Lake Systems”, where she presented preliminary results from the first stage of her PhD research. The study focuses on the comparative analysis of ostracod and mollusk assemblages from the Dinarides Lake System (DLS) and Serbian Lake System (SLS). The main goal is to analyse morphological variations in order to define faunal groups and potentially endemic species, thereby investigating whether the observed differences reflect independent evolutionary histories or phylogenetic continuity between the systems. This research sets the groundwork for future comparisons during Katja’s PhD project — including faunal assemblages from Lake Pannon, the Dacian Basin, and the Mediterranean Basin (Lago Mare phase).
