HGI researchers reanalyzed the Zmajevac loess-palaesol sequence using grain-size, stable isotope, and pollen data to reconstruct Late Pleistocene climate in the southern Pannonian Basin (OIS 6\u20132). Authors found temperatures consistently 4.6\u20136.7\u00b0C below modern levels, a sharp rise in wind activity at the OIS 5\/4 transition, and evidence of surviving forest refugia during glacial periods. While the three proxies agreed during OIS 5 and OIS 2, they diverged at other times, showing how complex and locally variable ecosystem responses to climate change were.<\/p>\n
