Analiza omjera stabilnih izotopa kisika (\u03b4<sup>18<\/sup>O) i ugljika (\u03b4<sup>13<\/sup>C) predstavlja jednu od temeljnih metoda u ovakvom tipu istra\u017eivanja, zbog \u010dega je masena spektrometrija izotopnih omjera me\u0111u najva\u017enijim i naj\u010de\u0161\u0107e kori\u0161tenim analiti\u010dkim metodama u paleoklimatskim istra\u017eivanjima prirodnih klimatskih arhiva.<\/p>\n<p>Tijekom \u0161estomjese\u010dnog boravka u vrhunskom laboratoriju Max Planck instituta za kemiju, pod mentorstvom dr. Huberta Vonhofa, jednog od vode\u0107ih stru\u010dnjaka u podru\u010dju izotopne geokemije i paleoklimatologije, Iva je stekla opse\u017ena teorijska i prakti\u010dna znanja o primjeni ove metode. Uz usvajanje teorijskih principa rada instrumenata, savladala je metodologiju pripreme razli\u010ditih tipova uzoraka standardnom i tzv. <em>cold trap<\/em> metodom. Standardna metoda primjenjuje se za analizu pra\u0161kastih uzoraka karbonata mase do 100 \u03bcg. Uzorci se potom tretiraju fosfornom kiselinom, pri \u010demu dolazi do osloba\u0111anja plina CO<sub>2<\/sub> koji se potom analizira u masenom spektrometru. Metoda hladne zamke (<em>cold trap<\/em>) primjenjuje se u analizi vrlo malih uzoraka mase 3-10 \u03bcg, poput jedinki foraminifera, kod kojih se u reakciji s kiselinom osloba\u0111a vrlo mala koli\u010dina plina CO<sub>2<\/sub>. Zbog toga se plin prije uvo\u0111enja u maseni spektrometar koncentrira teku\u0107im du\u0161ikom, \u0161to omogu\u0107uje njegovu u\u010dinkovitiju detekciju. Za potrebe ovog usavr\u0161avanja kori\u0161teni su uzorci siga iz Nove Grgosove spilje prikupljeni u okviru projekta UNLOCK-CAVE pod vodstvom vi\u0161e znanstvene suradnice i mentorice dr. Bajo, u okviru postoje\u0107e suradnje s dr.
