custom_margin=&#8221;7px|||||&#8221; custom_padding=&#8221;0px|||||&#8221;]<\/p>\n<p>Mohorovi\u010di\u0107, Andrija, hrvatski geofizi\u010dar (Volosko, 23. I. 1857 \u2013 Zagreb, 18. XII. 1936). Nakon \u0161to je u Pragu 1879. diplomirao matematiku i fiziku, radio je kao gimnazijski profesor u Zagrebu (1879\u201380) i Osijeku (1880\u201382), a potom kao profesor na Nauti\u010dkoj \u0161koli u Bakru (1882\u201391), gdje je predavao matematiku, fiziku i meteorologiju i 1887. pri \u0161koli osnovao meteorolo\u0161ku postaju. Od 1891. radio je u Kraljevskoj velikoj realki i trgova\u010dkoj \u0161koli u Zagrebu, od 1892. bio je upravitelj Meteorologijskoga opservatorija koji se nalazio u zgradi \u0161kole. Preuzeo je nadzor i upravu nad svim meteorolo\u0161kim postajama u tada\u0161njoj banskoj Hrvatskoj. Mohorovi\u010di\u0107 je doktorirao 1893. na Sveu\u010dili\u0161tu u Zagrebu disertacijom O opa\u017eanju oblaka, te dnevnom i godi\u0161njem periodu oblaka u Bakru. Predavao je (od 1893) geofiziku i astronomiju na Mudroslovnome fakultetu u Zagrebu, od 1909. u zvanju izvanrednog profesora. Godine 1898. postao je pravi (redoviti) \u010dlan JAZU (danas HAZU).<\/p>\n<p>Mohorovi\u010di\u0107ev rad u meteorologiji obuhva\u0107a istra\u017eivanje bure na podru\u010dju kr\u0161a i gibanja oblaka; konstruirao je nefoskop za odre\u0111ivanje smjera i brzine oblaka te vertikalnih gibanja zraka. Dva rada, Tornado kod Novske (31. V. 1892) i Vijor kod \u010cazme (20. VIII. 1898), u kojima je istra\u017eio pojave jakog nevremena, pobudila su zanimanje i u europskim znanstvenim krugovima jer su bila prvi sinopti\u010dki prikaz razorna djelovanja vjetra, koji je kraj Novske podignuo uvis \u017eeljezni\u010dki vagon od 13 t i nosio ga 30-ak metara. Mohorovi\u010di\u0107 je procijenio da je na tom podru\u010dju ciklonalno kru\u017eenje vjetra dostiglo brzine izme\u0111u 46 m\/s i 158 m\/s. Istra\u017eivao je i klimu Zagreba na osnovi podataka o oborinama, a prou\u010davao je i smanjenje temperature zraka s porastom visine.<\/p>\n<p>Godine 1892. Mohorovi\u010di\u0107 je prvi u nas uveo slu\u017ebu to\u010dnoga vremena, najprije na temelju opa\u017eanja prolaza zvijezda meridijanom, a od 1913. na temelju primanja radiosignala iz Pariza.<\/p>\n<p>Osnovni poticaj za prou\u010davanje potresa Mohorovi\u010di\u0107 je na\u0161ao u jakom potresu koji je pogodio Zagreb 9. XI. 1880. Ve\u0107 je 1901. postavio u Zagrebu seizmolo\u0161ku postaju, koja je 1908. i 1909. nabavila dva tada najmodernija seizmografa. Zabilje\u017eio je 28. XII. 1908. katastrofalan potres \u0161to je pogodio talijanske gradove Messinu i Reggio.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Mohorovi\u010di\u0107 je objavio pionirski i vizionarski rad Djelovanje potresa na zgrade (1909), u kojem upozorava na nu\u017enost pridr\u017eavanja posebnih propisa pri gradnji zgrada u potresnom podru\u010dju.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Na osnovi detaljnoga prou\u010davanja podataka o vi\u0161e potresa, Mohorovi\u010di\u0107 je znatno pridonio razvoju postupka odre\u0111ivanja epicentra potresa, pa se hiperbole koje se rabe u tom postupku nazivaju Mohorovi\u010di\u0107eve epicentrale. Radio je na usavr\u0161avanju seizmografa pa je ve\u0107 1917. izradio prijedlog za konstrukciju novoga seizmografa za bilje\u017eenje horizontalnih gibanja tla, ali koji se zbog nedostatka nov\u010danih sredstava nikada nije ostvario.<\/p>\n<p>Najve\u0107i doprinos znanosti Mohorovi\u010di\u0107 je ostvario otkri\u0107em diskontinuiteta u Zemljinoj kori i utemeljenjem primjene seizmolo\u0161kih postupaka za upoznavanje gra\u0111e duboke Zemljine unutra\u0161njosti. Detaljno je prou\u010davao pokupski potres koji se dogodio 8. listopada 1909. godine 39 km jugoisto\u010dno od Zagreba. Uspore\u0111ivao je seizmograme koji su zabilje\u017eeni u Zagrebu i u mnogim europskim seizmolo\u0161kim postajama. Odredio je hipocentar tek kada je odustao od pretpostavke da se potresni valovi \u0161ire jednolikom brzinom. Izradio je hodokrone, krivulje koje pokazuju ovisnost vremena \u0161irenja potresnoga vala o udaljenosti od epicentra.<\/p>\n<p>Mohorovi\u010di\u0107 je opa\u017eanje da su do nekih seizmolo\u0161kih postaja pristigla dva potresna vala protuma\u010dio \u0161irenjem jednoga vala razli\u010ditim putevima, \u0161to je vodilo zaklju\u010dku da unutra\u0161njost Zemlje nije homogena, ve\u0107 da postoje slojevi razli\u010ditih svojstava na granici kojih se potresni valovi lome i reflektiraju. Potresne valove koji do povr\u0161ine Zemlje sti\u017eu gibaju\u0107i se samo kroz koru nazvao je individualnima (danas Pg, Sg), a one koji zalaze u pla\u0161t, te se ponovno lome prema povr\u0161ini, nazvao je normalnima (danas: Pn, Sn).<\/p>\n<p>Mnogobrojna kasnija istra\u017eivanja povrdila su opstojnost grani\u010dne plohe (plohe diskontinuiteta brzine) najgornjega dijela Zemlje i u drugim podru\u010djima na\u0161eg planeta, pa je ta ploha nazvana Mohorovi\u010di\u0107ev diskontinuitet, ili kra\u0107e Moho. Pokazalo se da debljina Zemljine kore, odnosno dubina Mohorovi\u010di\u0107eva diskontinuiteta, nije svuda jednaka te da varira od mjesta do mjesta. Podno planinskih lanaca dose\u017ee dubinu i do 90 km, a podno dubokih oceana nalazi se na dubini od samo 5 km.
