In addition to standard hydrogeological mapping, to understand hydrogeological relationships, occurrence and rejuvenation of groundwater one needs to perfom groundwater monitoring, determination of physical and chemical composition of groundwater, and also groundwater tracing. Measurements are carried out using modern equipment, groundwater samples are analyzed in the Department’s hydrochemical laboratory, and the acquired data are processed using contemporary methods. Speleological research has an important role in studying the karst regions, and for many years it has been a significant segment of complex geological, hydrogeological and engineering-geological studies. Hydrogeological mapping, rapidly developing since the middle of the 20th century, has an important role in the presentation of research results.
The activity of hydrogeologists is focused on research that represents a part of the project “Basic Hydrogeological Map of the Republic of Croatia”. In addition, they also work on various contract projects for independent clients.
